CON ETIQUETTE 101
aka…how NOT to be “THAT girl/guy” when you meet Aaron [or any other VA for that matter.]
Since Aaron has been making more and more appearances at Cons, it was only a matter of time before this became necessary to post. After a conversation with Beth, she and I came up with some things that we hope will make meeting him an enjoyable experience not only for you, but also for him.
As many of you have probably found out, he goes out of his way to be accommodating with his fans. Let’s not ruin the experience for HIM by forgetting, that while he is young, he is a GUEST and should be treated with the same respect that you would show everyone else.
PICTURES & AUTOGRAPHS
Most Cons restrict the number of items you can have signed...however, some don't, or don't enforce it. PLEASE just remember to be COURTEOUS of what is probably the HUGE line behind you. No one wants to wait while you ask Aaron to sign every single copy of your FMA DVDs, or your manga...or that napkin you saved from lunch.
Unless it is during an autograph session, [and heck, ask then too!] PLEASE ASK if you can take a picture with him. DO NOT just run up and demand a picture. It’s RUDE.
If it’s obvious he’s in the middle of something; a conversation, an interview, speaking to another fan, EATING…don’t interrupt. The eating one seems to have gotten out of control. With all the dinners/lunches he has been asked to attend, the poor guy barely gets a chance to eat his food. Again…it’s BEYOND rude.
Aaron will sign pretty much anything you put in front of him, but PLEASE be respectful. Don’t ask him to sign bootleg/illegal copies of DVDs, your yaoi fanart, body parts…
QUESTIONS DURING PANELS
There have been more and more incidents of “fans” asking VERY inappropriate questions, whether they are rude, too personal, etc. These not only make Aaron very uncomfortable, it’s rude to the other panelists and attendees.
This is simple. If you wouldn’t ask it in front of your mother/father…don’t ask Aaron. If you’re thinking “Well HA HA, I talk anyway I want to in front of my parents!!” [Well, whoop-dee-doo for you and I feel sorry for your parents…] Then ask yourself this. “Is my question/comment going to embarrass Aaron?” If so…then keep it to yourself. Aaron doesn’t need to hear it and I can guarantee the rest of the room doesn’t want to either. And honestly? It just makes you look like an idiot.
RANDOM ODDS & ENDS
Aaron is not a fan of yaoi. He is not judging anyone who IS into it, it's just not his thing. That being said, he really does not want your yaoi fanart, nor does he want to get into a discussion/answer questions about yaoi. His opinion? Alphonse likes GIRLS. Period. End of story.
Want a hug? Well…ask first. Contrary to popular belief…randomly tackling or “glomping” is NOT an acceptable behavior and it sort of freaks him out. Also? To quote Aaron himself, "I'm from Texas, how about a 'manly handshake'?" Sometimes the handshake IS the better option. Do not underestimate the manly handshake, it's becoming QUITE the rage...Especially if you’re a guy!
Want a kiss? Just don’t ask. He doesn’t know where your face has been…
Any questions? Concerns? You know how to reach me!!
